I was inspired to paint this piece after a long walk around the former gravel pits near the small town of Unkelbach.
This
was in November, the late fall, when colours contrast the most. The
area is quite isolated from civilization, for the most part you're all
alone up there, only surrounded by the echoing sound of small rocks and
boulders, falling from the high cliffs into the lakes. The intense dark greenish-blue colour of the lakes brings about an almost mystical feel to the place.
At the moment this painting is part of the ArtAhr exhibition.
